A message from the Principal.
Westminster Kingsway College is one of London's larger post -16 educational institutions with some 20,000 students and around 600 directly employed full-time equivalent (FTE) staff and a number of FTEs on a part-time agency basis staff. The college's income base is around £30m.
WKC is located in the heart of London's inner city and within our college community we represent the full range of ethnic and cultural backgrounds in London, with a cohort of students and staff representing a over 50 nationalities and over 150 mother tongue languages.
The college's mission statement - Empowering individuals, Enabling communities, Equipping Employers; Educating for Life - reflects our intention to meet the diverse needs of the London population and economy by supporting all of our students in realising their ambitions as learners within a fully inclusive educational community.
I have summarised below some key points from our mission statement. We are seeking to
· Maximise the potential for learning and achievement of each student
· Widen participation and promote lifelong learning
· Work in partnership with others to ensure effective access to learning, skills development and progression
· Contribute actively to the social and economic regeneration of the inner city and the region's prosperity
· Value all of our staff
The college, which has buildings in the two London boroughs of Camden and Westminster, is organised on centre-based structure. Although we have six main buildings these are organised as 4 college centres, each of which is managed by a Director.
>The King's Cross Centre (in Sidmouth Street, near Euston/Russell Square/Kings Cross stations)
>The Soho Centre and St James's Park Centre (two buildings: one in Peter Street, near Piccadilly Circus stations and one in Castle Lane, off Victoria Street, near Victoria Station)
>The Regents Park and Kentish Town Centre (two buildings: one in Longford street, near Warren
Street/Euston Square stations) and Holmes Road (near Kentish Town station)
>The Victoria Centre in (in Vincent Square, near Victoria station)
Additionally we offer part-time educational provision in over 60 community venues.
Our recent successful OfSted Inspection in May 2004 and our ambitious estates strategy mean that this is an exciting and challenging phase in the college's development. New entrants will be joining at a time when collective endeavour has never been more important and the ability of employees to respond flexibly and proactively in a rapidly changing internal and external environment is an essential attribute.
