About Us

Coleg Sir Gâr is a large, multi-site, Further Education College.

The College is is part of the University of Wales: Trinity Saint David Group. The Group offers a range of integrated pathways from 14 upwards and has delivered transformational change for the region. The College is based in South West Wales and has five main campuses at Llanelli (Graig), Carmarthen (Pibwrlwyd and Jobs Well), Ammanford and Llandeilo (Gelli Aur). Campuses vary in size and nature and offer a variety of subjects. It offers further education, adult and community learning, higher education and work based learning. It has approximately 10,000 learners of which some 3,000 are full time and 7,000 are part time. There are over 900 higher education learners.

The College has a broad range of academic and vocational education and training programmes. These range from pre-entry to postgraduate level, providing a service to the whole learning community. It also offers its provision on-line, via partnerships at community locations and in the workplace. Coleg Sir Gâr can help employers develop their workforce by assessing training needs and providing quality training programmes. These can be tailor made to meet business needs including the timing and location of the training. Practical support is also available in the form of work based training programmes such as Foundation and Modern Apprenticeships.

In addition the expertise and resources of the college are available through knowledge and technology transfer, to assist businesses with innovation and product development. It also provides for large numbers of 14-19 school pupils (around 1000) who attend the College or are taught by College staff at their schools. The College has an annual turnover of around £30m and employs approximately 850 staff. Of these, roughly 450 are directly involved in teaching and 400 in support and administrative functions.

Academic Programme The College is led by the Principal/Chief Executive (who reports to the Governing Body) supported by three Assistant Principals who form the College Executive. The Curriculum is delivered through three Faculties each of which is led by a Faculty & Campus Director.

Campuses Graig Campus, Sandy Road, Pwll, Llanelli, SA15 4DN – is the largest of the five campuses and is the administrative hub of the college. It houses an Engineering & Technology Centre and a Hair & Beauty Centre. It is also the main centre for A level courses as well as Computing, Creative Industries, Public Services and Sport, Leisure and Tourism.

Jobs Well Campus, Jobs Well Road, Carmarthen, SA31 3HY - the main campus for Art and Design. Pibwrlwyd Campus, Pibwrlwyd, Carmarthen, SA31 2NH - home of Business Management and Education.

Other key activities include Automotive Engineering, Catering & Hospitality, Equine Studies, Hair and Beauty & Small Animal Science.

Ammanford Campus, Ammanford, SA18 3TA - Learning activity on the Ammanford campus is focused on Health, Social & Child Care, Counselling, the Built Environment and Entry level provision.

Gelli Aur Campus, Llandeilo, SA32 8NJ - The campus is a purpose built complex focused on Agriculture, Countryside Management and Agricultural Engineering . It is also home to the 211 hectare College Farm.
