Redbridge Institute of Adult Education is the main provider of adult skills and community learning in the London Borough of Redbridge and operates under a Scheme of Financial Delegation.Redbridge Institute delivers learning programmes to 6,000 adult learners annually. 73% are from BME groups and 53% of learners reside in four of the most deprived wards in the Borough.Much of our adult skills provision is targeted towards employability with most learners inactive, with a high number of women returners, the unemployed and the low paid/nearly poor. Although working with many low skilled adult learners whose first language is not English, success rates for Institute students exceed the national average.Around 53% of our delivery covers Community outreach information & advice and learning programmes delivered throughout the Borough, including family and neighbourhood learning programmes.Our only dedicated centre, the Gearies Centre, is a five minute walk from Gants Hill tube station on the Central Line and is also well served by buses from Ilford town centre and other key residential and shopping areas in the borough. Considerable investment has been made by the Skills Funding Agency in specialist facilities and our Information and Learning Technology infrastructure. There are 21 teaching rooms with excellent specialist facilities, studios and adaptive technology for learners with learning disabilities and difficulties. Learners have access to a VLE and e-learning resources to support their learning. These are all strengths in the last Ofsted Report (2009) when we were judged a Good provider in all aspects. Over an academic year over 2,600 learners use the accommodation during the day when teaching accommodation is at a premium in the borough as well as providing a popular evening and Saturday programme.Redbridge Institute works closely with workRedbridge and the Redbridge Strategic Partnership Enterprise Redbridge to ensure provision is tailored to local need.
