About the College
Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.
Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.
The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region
Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

About the Role
The Apprenticeship Directorate is looking for an Assessor in Bricklaying. This role will work with a cohort of Level 2 apprentices and their employers, conducting progress reviews, and support with assessing on the competency elements of the apprenticeship and being the main point of contact. Applicants for this post should have drive, enthusiasm, possess excellent interpersonal, I.T. and organisational skills and be mobile throughout the northeast region as this role involves travelling to employer premises and working across college sites.
Role Responsibilities
- To coach apprentices on a one-to-one basis and support the development of the skills, knowledge and behaviours as defined within the relevant apprenticeship.
- To monitor and assess the progress of Apprentices.
- To ensure compliance with the end-to-end Apprenticeship journey and the requirements of the appropriate standard/framework, funding body, awarding organisations and the college.
- To support the Business Development function by playing a key role in engaging with new and existing large employers to support growth and enhance employer satisfaction.
- To undertake any other duties as may be deemed to be commensurate with the grade of the post.
Qualifications
- A1 or TAQA 301-3 Assessor Award
- Relevant vocational qualification at level 3 or above.
- Numeracy and Literacy qualifications (minimum Level 2)
- Essential Skills & Experience
- Successful, relevant and current experience in the occupational sector.
- Experience of successfully delivering apprenticeships in the occupational sector
Desirable Skills & Experience – (Optional)
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to plan and manage own workload.
- IT literate.
- Experience of e-portfolio management, in particular Smart Assessor.
- Ability to multi task and meet deadlines.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
