Developing students for a lifelong love of sport and fitness

PE is a central part of the Ashton Park School community. Sport and activity is taken seriously by the students of South Bristol, and we have a curriculum that is designed to appeal to them. In lessons there is a wide range of sporting, dance and fitness opportunities from the more traditional to the minority sports, like archery. There is equal opportunity for all pupils to learn about each of these.

Outside of lessons we have an impressive extracurricular offer and it is a vital part of the work we do. The success of teams at Ashton Park is well known, but equally important to the faculty is engaging pupils who may not yet realise how much they love PE.

We are a stone’s throw from Ashton Gate Stadium, and have strong links to Bristol Bears and The Robins Foundation, particularly helping to support girls' rugby and football. Ashton Park now has three girls' rugby teams and many played at Twickenham recently in a celebration of girls' rugby.

The successful candidate will be an effective and inspiring practitioner who has a love of planning and delivering engaging and ambitious PE lessons and extra curricular activities. KS5 experience is desirable as there is the potential to teach in our growing sixth form.

We want a teacher of girls' PE who can motivate and push our students to be the best version of themselves on the field and in the classroom.

Ashton Park is growing great learners, great leaders and a great community

Ashton Park is an inclusive and oversubscribed school, with over 1200 students, set in the beautiful grounds of Ashton Court Estate in Bristol. Our school is in the top 3% of most improved schools in the country when you compare our 2023 GCSE results with those pre-pandemic. In October 2022, Ofsted graded us ‘Good’ in all areas, and we are proud they recognised that: ‘Pupils are happy to attend Ashton Park School. They enjoy their lessons and the range of opportunities the school provides for them. Staff know pupils well and want the best for them.’ The report also commented that ‘Lessons are purposeful and learning is rarely interrupted by poor behaviour.’

We are on a journey to excellence and have a mission to grow great learners, great leaders and a great community.

Through our Growing Great Learners framework, we guide and support staff to become excellent teachers, but we also give freedom and autonomy to allow practitioners to be the teacher they want to be in the classroom. We are committed to growing great leaders by providing high quality CPD and focusing on well-being in all the decisions we make. We are growing a great community by ensuring we focus on students, parents and the wider community through our strong culture and ethics. This is an exciting school to be a part of, one that prides itself on providing a happy and supportive environment for both students and staff.

We wish you the very best of luck with your application and hope to meet you soon!

Please be aware that we will review applications as we receive them and reserve the right to close this posting once suitable candidates have been found. We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible in order to be considered.
