Our Values
The College offers the following benefits to its staff in addition to competitive salaries:
Barnsley is a large town in South Yorkshire, located between Leeds and Sheffield. The friendly and welcoming town remains rooted in its industrial heritage of coal mining and glassmaking. Barnsley’s vibrant history, arts and entertainment culture, coupled with its excellent location bordering onto the Peak District, make it a fantastic place to live and work.
Transport
Barnsley Interchange is less than a five minute walk from the College. Buses serve the surrounding area and the train station provides regular services to Leeds, Sheffield and beyond.
By road
The M1 passes to the west of Barnsley and the town can be reached via Junctions 36, 37 or 38. The College is just 1.8 miles from Junction 37, allowing convenient road access from the rest of the country.
Town centre
Famous for its market which has been trading since the 15th century, Barnsley’s bustling town centre also features the Alhambra Shopping Centre and recognisable high street brands such as Marks and Spencer, Boots, Next and Primark. There are many independent stores and a range of cafés, bars and restaurants. The town centre is part way through a £120m regeneration programme due to conclude in 2020.
Property and housing
With an overall average house price of just £119k, there are houses available to meet every budget. From Victorian terraces and townhouses in the centre, to detached properties in the surrounding area. There are also good transport links if a countryside retreat is more appealing.
