This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. We’ll provide an approximate number of hours you may be asked to work, however there is no obligation for work to be offered, and there’s no obligation for you to accept the work offered.
The Opportunity
Barnsley College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated A Level Business and Economics Teacher to join our thriving, learner centred Sixth Form College. You will teach across our A Level programmes, delivering engaging and high quality lessons that support students aged 16–19 to achieve their full potential.
In this role, you will teach a range of courses using varied and effective delivery methods. You will contribute to curriculum planning, review and development, and create high quality schemes of work, lesson plans and learning materials. You will also build strong and supportive relationships with learners to help them progress.
Your responsibilities will include delivering assessments and providing clear, constructive feedback. You will support strategies that enhance attendance, retention and achievement, and carry out student reviews while monitoring and recording progress throughout the year. You will also take part in enrolment, school liaison events, marketing activities and interviews, and work closely with Personal Progress Mentors and colleagues across the Sixth Form to maximise learner outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the wider Business and Economics curriculum, develop enrichment activities and support learners with their next steps, including university applications, personal statements and future career pathways.
About You
You will be an engaging and motivated practitioner with experience teaching A Level Business and/or Economics. You will have a strong understanding of the academic and pastoral needs of A Level learners and be confident in using innovative teaching methods. You should be comfortable tracking progress through data and planning targeted interventions where needed.
Your communication skills will enable you to give clear, constructive feedback, and you will be committed to helping students achieve their best. A flexible, professional and organised approach is essential, as is a genuine passion for supporting young people’s progression.
Essential requirements include a relevant degree, GCSE English and Maths at Level 2 (or equivalent), experience working in an education setting, experience delivering learning to a range of learners and the ability to develop high quality learning materials. A teaching qualification is required or a willingness to work towards one. A relevant higher degree and A Level teaching experience are desirable.
