The Opportunity

Barnsley College is seeking a highly organised and proactive Apprenticeship Support Officer to join our Engineering department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting apprentices, employers and training partners throughout the apprenticeship journey, helping learners to achieve positive outcomes and reach their career goals.

Working closely with Trainers and the Apprenticeship Manager, you will support the planning, coordination and monitoring of apprenticeship programmes, ensuring learners receive the guidance and support they need from onboarding through to completion and certification. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships, coordinating processes and supporting learners to succeed.

You will become part of a dedicated team committed to delivering high quality apprenticeship provision, helping to ensure learners, employers and stakeholders receive an outstanding experience throughout every stage of the programme.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Apprenticeship Support Officer, you will support the delivery of apprenticeship programmes by working closely with apprentices, employers, trainers and external training partners. You will monitor the progress of a caseload of learners, maintaining regular contact with employers and helping to ensure apprentices remain on track to achieve their planned outcomes.

You will play an important role in coordinating and recording apprenticeship reviews, ensuring that Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours, off the job training and progression towards gateway are accurately captured and recorded using the College’s e portfolio system, Aptem. You will monitor learner progress throughout the apprenticeship journey and support the completion of key milestones from onboarding through to achievement.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you will help ensure compliance with apprenticeship funding and quality requirements, supporting processes and documentation throughout the learner journey. You will also participate in training and standardisation activities to promote consistency and continuous improvement across the department.

You will provide guidance and support to apprentices, referring them to specialist areas of the College where additional support is needed, and work proactively to identify and escalate concerns relating to learners, employers or training partners when appropriate.

You will be an organised and motivated individual with excellent administrative and communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting learners to succeed. You will be confident building positive relationships with apprentices, employers, training providers and colleagues, ensuring all stakeholders receive a professional and supportive experience.

You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Comfortable working with digital systems and learner data, you will be confident using IT systems to monitor progress, maintain records and support apprenticeship processes.

You will be a proactive problem solver who can work independently while contributing positively as part of a team. With excellent interpersonal skills and a flexible approach, you will be able to adapt to changing priorities and support learners through a variety of situations and challenges.

Essential Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Level 2 (Grade 4/C or above) or willingness to work towards

• Experience within an engineering or welding training environment

• Strong organisational and administrative skills

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholders (such as learners, employers, partners)
