This role is offered on a Variable Hours contract for services, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to accept work offered to you. The Opportunity

Barnsley College is seeking a passionate and industry experienced Chef Teacher to join our Hair, Beauty & Catering department. This is an exciting opportunity to share your culinary expertise with the next generation of chefs and hospitality professionals, helping learners develop the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to succeed within a fast paced and rewarding industry.

Working as part of our Catering and Hospitality team, you will deliver engaging and practical teaching across a range of programmes, supporting learners to achieve their qualifications and progress into employment, apprenticeships or further study. You will join a dedicated team committed to delivering exceptional learning experiences while maintaining strong links with industry and current professional practice.

This role is ideal for a skilled chef or hospitality professional who is passionate about education and developing future talent within the sector.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Chef Teacher, you will plan, prepare and deliver high quality teaching, learning and assessment across Catering and Hospitality programmes. You will create engaging lessons and practical learning experiences that develop learners’ technical skills, industry knowledge and professional behaviours.

You will assess learner progress, provide timely and constructive feedback and adapt your teaching approaches to meet the needs of individual learners. Through effective support and guidance, you will help learners achieve their goals while preparing them for successful careers within the catering and hospitality industry.

You will contribute to curriculum development, creating learning materials and resources that reflect current industry practice and standards. You will also support moderation, sampling and quality assurance activities, ensuring programmes meet awarding body and College requirements.

Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will participate in departmental development activities, programme meetings and wider team initiatives. You may also support the day to day operation of the department by engaging with visitors, participating in promotional activities and contributing to the continued development of the College’s catering provision.

You will be an enthusiastic and motivated catering professional with substantial industry experience and a passion for helping others succeed. With a strong background within the catering and hospitality sector, you will bring current industry knowledge, practical expertise and a commitment to developing future professionals.

You will be confident delivering both practical and theory based learning, using a variety of teaching and assessment methods to engage learners and support achievement. Whether you are an experienced teacher or a chef looking to transition into education, you will be committed to maintaining high standards and continually developing your own practice.

With a growth mindset and strong teamworking skills, you will embrace innovation and be committed to providing learners with an outstanding educational experience that prepares them for success in the hospitality industry.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Teaching experience (must be willing to work towards Level 6 PGCE if not already held)

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2 qualification)

• Level 2 Food Hygiene

• Assessor awards (D32/33 or A1/2) (or willingness to achieve within a specified timescale)

• Level 3 qualification in Catering (or equivalent)

• Minimum 3 years’ industrial experience of working within catering and hospitality industry
