Catering Assistant & Driver

Department: Catering Services

Salary: £13,697 (£23,493 full time/year equivalent)

Contract Type: Permanent, Part Time – Term Time

Hours: 25 hours per week

Reference: REC2310 | Closing Date: Sunday, 23rd November 2025

Term Time Contracts

This contract offers part-time hours across 38 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a part-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.

The Opportunity

You will play an important role in supporting the smooth running of our catering operations, helping to deliver fresh, high-quality food to our staff and students. You will assist with day-to-day food preparation, service, and replenishment, ensuring that every outlet is well-presented and maintained to excellent hygiene standards. Your role will also include handling payments, restocking items, and supporting deliveries to our other sites using the college vehicle.

You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of catering outlets, either independently or as part of a small team that may include other assistants, apprentices, or learners on placements. You will always maintain a professional approach, keeping your uniform clean and presentable, and contributing positively to the welcoming environment in our catering spaces.

Alongside your practical duties, you will have the chance to develop your skills through mandatory training and essential hospitality qualifications. You will be responsible for completing basic food safety documentation, including SFBB paperwork, temperature charts, and stock rotation records, ensuring that all food safety standards are consistently met.

Your role is all about providing a customer-focused service with a friendly and approachable manner, while demonstrating a strong commitment to safeguarding children and young people. You will be encouraged to engage in your own professional development and play an active role in contributing to the wider college community.

This is an ideal opportunity if you’re looking for a role that fits around school terms or other commitments. You will gain hands-on experience in a professional catering environment, working across different outlets and developing a wide range of practical skills.

About You

We are looking for someone who is reliable, approachable, and committed to providing excellent service. You should have previous customer service experience and be confident in interacting with students, staff, and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.

You will need an understanding of basic food safety and health & safety working practices, as well as knowledge of how to prepare and serve a variety of hot drinks and basic sandwiches and snacks. A good understanding of allergen awareness is also essential to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all customers.

You should also be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a small team, supporting our colleagues, apprentices, or learners on placement as needed. A willingness to learn and complete essential training and hospitality qualifications is important, along with the ability to follow procedures carefully and consistently.

Practical catering experience is desirable but not essential – what matters most is your enthusiasm, reliability, and commitment to contributing positively to the college environment.

Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity.
