Catering Assistant (Starbucks)

Department: Catering Services

Salary: £13,697 (£23,493 full time/year equivalent)

Contract Type: Permanent, Part Time – Term Time

Hours: 25 hours per week

Reference: REC2311 | Closing Date: Sunday, 23rd November 2025

Term Time Contracts

This contract offers part-time hours across 38 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a part-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.

The Opportunity

As our Catering Assistant within our “We Proudly Serve Starbucks” outlet, you will play an important role in creating enjoyable food and drink experiences for our students, staff, and visitors. Working on a part time basis, 25 hours per week (currently scheduled from 1:00pm to 6:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 1:30pm on Fridays), you’ll support the day-to-day running of our catering operations, helping to prepare and serve fresh food and beverages while keeping service areas well-presented, fully stocked, and maintained to the highest hygiene standards.

You’ll prepare and serve Starbucks drinks, restock supplies, and assist with deliveries to keep the outlet running smoothly. You’ll also help with cleaning and general upkeep, following food safety and hygiene procedures to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone.

You take pride in providing friendly, efficient service and bringing a positive attitude to your work. You’ll complete essential hospitality training and qualifications within agreed timescales, maintaining accurate records such as temperature charts and stock rotation sheets to support compliance and consistency.

This is a great opportunity to be part of a welcoming and community-focused environment where your work genuinely makes a difference to our students and staff. You’ll gain valuable hands-on experience in catering and customer service while working with a recognised global brand.

You’ll also have the opportunity to complete training and achieve essential qualifications that can support your professional growth and open up future career opportunities within the catering and hospitality sector.

About You

For this role, you’ll be someone who enjoys working in a busy, customer-focused environment and takes pride in providing friendly, efficient service. You’ll have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation across the catering outlet.

You’ll bring previous customer service experience and a good understanding of basic food safety and health and safety working practices. You’ll have some knowledge of preparing and serving a variety of hot drinks, as well as making simple sandwiches and snacks. You’ll also understand how to respond to customer needs, deal calmly and professionally with complaints, and have an awareness of allergens and how to handle them appropriately.

You don’t need extensive catering experience, but you should be reliable, well-organised, and keen to learn. A background in catering, hospitality, or food service would be beneficial, though full training will be provided. You’ll also be a strong team player, ready to support colleagues and ensure smooth, high-quality service throughout the day.

Attention to detail, good communication skills, and a focus on delivering an excellent customer experience are key. You’ll take a professional approach to your work, uphold food hygiene and safety standards, and be motivated to complete the required hospitality training and qualifications. Most importantly, you’ll bring a warm, approachable manner that helps create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who visits the outlet.

Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity.
