The Opportunity

Barnsley College’s outstanding Business department is seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Course Leader to join our successful team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced educator or an aspiring leader looking for support to take the next step to shape our English and Maths provision within the Business department.

As a Course Leader, you’ll play a key role in managing English and Maths programmes and supporting the teaching team. You will contribute to the development of high-quality teaching, ensuring learners have an exceptional experience. If you’re passionate about curriculum innovation, dedicated to learner success, and keen to progress your own professional development, this could be the ideal role for you.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will lead, coordinate and oversee the English and Maths programmes within the department, offering day to day support, guidance and leadership to teaching staff. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will teach a small number of hours across GCSE and Functional Skills Maths for both 16–18-year-olds and adult learners. You will ensure that teaching, learning and assessment standards remain consistently high, monitor learner progress and outcomes, and help maintain our excellent success rates. Your role will also involve shaping and developing the curriculum, ensuring it meets learner needs and sector expectations, and working collaboratively with colleagues across the College to maintain outstanding provision. You will maintain accurate records, data and quality documentation in line with college expectations and contribute to a positive, motivating learning environment for all students.

About You

You will be someone who is genuinely passionate about providing outstanding learner experiences and who brings at least two years of relevant professional experience. You will have experience teaching Maths at GCSE and Functional Skills level, along with the confidence to support or lead others. Experience in managing or coordinating staff would be an advantage.

You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant teaching qualification, and it would be beneficial if you also have or are willing to work towards an internal verifier qualification. Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills are essential, alongside creativity, initiative and the drive to contribute to an inspiring curriculum. You will be committed to supporting learners to achieve their goals and to maintaining the Business department’s excellent standards and outcomes. You are prepared to work evenings as part of your working week.
