The Opportunity
Not your average English teaching job
At Barnsley College Foundation Learning, we are looking for an exceptional English teacher to join our nationally recognised, innovative and inclusive team. You will support young people who may not have thrived in mainstream education to rediscover their confidence and potential.
This is more than delivering lessons. It is about building trust, restoring confidence, creating a sense of belonging and helping young people re-engage with education.
Our learners achieve and our outcomes are strong. However, we believe success is driven by relationships, high expectations, creativity and meaningful learning experiences.
What Makes This Role Different
In this role, you will teach GCSE and Entry 3 English across a range of inclusive provisions designed around the needs of young people, rather than expecting them to fit the system.
Our delivery is varied and flexible, including outdoor and community-based learning, outreach work across the local area and a mobile classroom. Learning takes place in smaller, supportive environments and is often project-based, with strong vocational and employer links, as well as trips and experiences that bring learning to life.
This is a genuinely varied role. One day you may deliver a lesson linked to an employer project; the next, you may support learners in the community, helping to develop confidence and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
You will deliver GCSE and Entry 3 English while building positive relationships with learners and creating engaging, accessible learning experiences. You will support attendance, confidence and progression, work closely with curriculum and pastoral teams, and contribute to enrichment opportunities, trips and employer projects. You will also support learners in preparing for their next steps in education, employment or training.
Why Join Us
Foundation Learning is a supportive, ambitious and collaborative team with a strong focus on innovation. We are proud of our inclusive ethos, high expectations, strong learner outcomes and commitment to staff development and wellbeing.
This role is both challenging and highly rewarding. You will make a genuine difference.
About you
We are looking for someone who believes behaviour is communication and takes a relational approach to education. You will lead with empathy while maintaining high expectations and will understand trauma-informed practice.
You will be passionate about inclusive and engaging education, able to motivate learners who may have disengaged, and confident in seeing potential where others may see barriers. You will also recognise that success goes far beyond exam results.
You do not need to be perfect. However, you will need resilience, compassion, creativity and a genuine belief that every young person can succeed with the right support.
