Bristol Grammar School is seeking a full-time permanent Teacher of PE and Games from September 2024. The successful applicant will also be appointed as Head of Hockey (Girls and Boys).
The department aims to encourage the participation of all in meaningful physical activity while maintaining the pursuit of excellence as a specific goal in team and individual performance. The superb on-site facilities and extensive sports grounds at Failand provide excellent spaces for teaching.
The department offers examination PE at GCSE (taught from year 9), A level in Physical Education (AQA) and IB. Examinable PE has become a popular and successful subject. In Year 12, the Department also offers the Sports Leadership Award for which some students prepare alongside 3 A Levels.
Hockey is a successful sport at Bristol Grammar School and one which should aim not only to produce good results, but also to generate enthusiasm, enjoyment and a sense of purpose among students and staff. The Head of Hockey will be required to organise, promote and run the hockey programme in line with the vision and mission of Sport at BGS, and to ensure that the core values of the school and sport underpin the programme.
Running after-school and weekend practices and taking fixtures is expected of all members of the department, as is contributing fully to the life of the School and its co-curricular programme.
