The Opportunity

Brunel Academies Trust are a proud, growing educational community with a vision to be an exceptional creative education family opening doors, opening minds and changing lives. We strive to significantly improve the life chances and outcomes for our children and young people (CYP) whether they are within our SEND provisions or mainstream schools.

As a developing Multi Academy Trust, now is an exciting time to join us as Westlea Primary School are in search of a Learning Support Assistant to work in our SEND Provision.

This opportunity is challenging as much as it is rewarding and is a physical role, with some manual handling and personal care required for your assigned child (full training provided).

You will be supporting EHCP targets and interventions under the guidance of our Class Teacher and SENCO; and you will be part of our Child Centre: a wonderful, nurturing environment for our varied cohort of pupils where some needs are required to be met before learning begins. ‘Nurture’ is a big part of our ethos and values in supporting our pupils learning journey, comfortably.

Your Role

As a LSA the attached job description will detail your role in full. But at a glance, some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):

  • Facilitate activities planned to meet the emotional, physical and learning needs of individual and groups of children, including those with SEND.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and delivery of individualised programmes of learning and support, following advice from colleagues and external professionals.
  • Monitor children’s responses to learning activities and encourage them to develop independence, self-motivation and positive learning behaviours
  • Assist with the organisation of the learning environment, indoors and outdoors, by ensuring that learning resources are ready, fit for purpose and easily accessible at all times.
  • Take responsibility for maintaining accurate records including observations and information that can contribute to teachers’ assessments of children’s learning
  • Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of learning activities for individuals, groups or the whole class, working with the teacher to ensure coverage of the curriculum.
  • Support children to develop their core skills including those related to phonics, reading, writing, mathematics and computing

Hours: 10 hrs per week - 09:30 - 15:00 Thursday & Friday

Your Experience

Our LSA person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:

  • GCSE English & Maths – Grade A – C Essential
  • At least a Level 2 qualification relevant to the setting e.g. NVQ
  • Knowledge & understanding of SEND issues
  • Excellent communicator able to use an excellent standard of oral and written English.
  • Recent experience of supporting learning and teaching in a similar setting

Interview Date: 17 April 2024 or as received
