The Opportunity
Horizons College is an innovative and inclusive specialist provision for young people aged 16-25 with learning difficulties and/or complex needs. Our brand new college opened at the Interface Business Park in Royal Wootton Bassett in September 2022 we provide a safe, stimulating, learner-centred environment; equipping our learners to be independent by developing life and work skills ready for life after college and their transition to adulthood.

Your Role
The attached job description will detail your role in full. Some of the key fields you will be responsible for include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing person centred, day to day support, delivering 1:1, paired and small group teaching, and learner sessions using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
  • Support our young adults' from school to college and beyond
  • Supervise and support our learners to engage in community-based learning, work experience and educational visits.
  • Support our learners to develop crucial work and life skills, meet their goals and aspirations through communication, independence and participation.

We are looking for empathetic and adaptable individuals, who thrive under pressure and have a natural ability to solve challenges. You will also need physical and emotional resilience to work with young people with a primary diagnosis of Autism, some of whom have other complex needs. You will be keen to use our positive behavioural approach, have a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Your Experience
Our person specification attached will contain the full areas of skills and experience, but it is really important to us that you feel comfortable and confident in your role, so although you may not have everything desirable, there are some essential features our appointee will need to have and these include:

  • Model professional communication with children/young people and other adults
  • To provide feedback on Leaners participation and achievement
  • To undertake and implement training in the use of software and equipment
  • Work as part of a team
  • Able to ensure Learners participation in the community
  • Be highly motivated
  • Be able to follow instruction and work independently

Hours: 29.5 pw

Working Days: Mon 9.00 – 15.30 Tues, Weds, Thurs 9.10 – 15.30 and Friday 9.10 – 15.20
