School Staff Instructor (SSI) & Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator

Location: Kingston Maurward College

Contract Type: Part-Time 0.8 fraction (DofE Coordinator – 1 day/week, SSI - 2 day/week, Instructor 1 day/week)

Department: Public Services & Outdoor Education

Kingston Maurward College is seeking a dynamic and inspirational individual to join our team in a dual role supporting both our Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programmes. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with military, cadet forces, or outdoor education experience who is passionate about guiding young people toward careers in the public services sector.

About the Role

As School Staff Instructor (SSI), you will be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of our successful CCF contingent. Reporting directly to the Contingent Commander, you will manage all aspects of administration and coordination involving Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) and cadets. You will act as a role model for learners, demonstrating the values, standards, and personal qualities that support their development and future career aspirations.

As Duke of Edinburgh Coordinator, you will work one day per week to lead and deliver the DofE programme. This includes organising expeditions, volunteering opportunities, and skills development activities. You will provide guidance to participants, ensure programme compliance, and promote the award across the college to encourage engagement and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver practical and engaging activities for Public Services and Outdoor Education courses.

Inspire and prepare students for careers in the armed forces and wider public services.

Coordinate and manage CCF activities, administration, and logistics.

Lead the planning and delivery of the DofE programme.

Support full-time FE provision in collaboration with the Head of Department and team.

What We’re Looking For

Inspirational, enthusiastic, and highly motivated individual.

Experience in military, cadet forces, or outdoor/adventure education.

Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Experience in the further education sector (desirable).

Relevant fitness and/or outdoor adventure qualifications.

Graduate-level or equivalent qualifications in a related discipline (preferred).

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives, helping them build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed for successful careers in public service.

Salary: £26,210 - £30,156 per annum pro rata depending on sills and experience.
