1. Purpose of the job
To support, coach and assess vocational learners working towards achieving an vocational standard or qualification which could be linked to a work placement requirement, making sure that learners meet the occupational standards, develop enough evidence to progress and achieve successfully as per the requirements of a specification.
2. Key Accountabilities
2.1 Act as a vocational assessor with a pro rata caseload to be agreed with line manager.
2.2 Complete high quality initial training plan documentation in conjunction with the learner and employer ensuring:
2.2.1 A thorough initial assessment has been conducted taking account of the learner’s prior knowledge and attainment.
2.2.2 Accurately recorded start and end dates.
2.2.3 Valid input from the employer.
2.3 Carry out regular, high quality workplace reviews with the learner and their employer ensuring: Reviews will include detail in the following areas:
2.3.1 Setting and reviewing challenging smart targets.
2.3.2 Providing sufficient evidence of learners’ progress and employer input.
2.3.3 Additional learning needs are discussed and reviewed with the learner and employer to ensure support is sufficient and beneficial for those that need it.
2.3.4 Quality of documentation meets the colleges audit standards.
2.4 Ensure records on learner progress are appropriately recorded, kept up-to-date and shared with the curriculum delivery team and line manager, so that there is always clarity around the progress of learners within their workplace settings.
2.5 Attend departmental meetings to accurately report on your areas of responsibility and support programme leaders to ensure tracking is accurate.
2.6 Work with individual learners and their employer to manage learner’s progress and respond to employer demands helping to solve any issues in a timely manner.
2.7 Agree planned end dates for learners with programme leaders and employers, ensuring they meet minimum durations set on the course specifications.
2.8 Manage own areas of responsibility to ensure achievement by the planned end date. Securing overall achievement above national averages and within the planned hybrid end year.
2.9 Ensure the colleges central Health and Safety (H&S) and Employer Liability Insurance (ELI) records are kept up to date for companies within your caseload, by carrying out workplace H&S assessments and chasing employers for ELI documentation.
2.10 Where required by the course specification, provide learners with support in conjunction with the programme lead, to prepare a portfolio of evidence required to meet the qualification requirements.
2.11 Plan assessments / observations / monitor visits tailored to each individual qualification and student needs, aligned to employer requirements.
2.12 Plan and deliver placement preparation sessions for students
2.13 Make judgements against the qualification criteria and complete detailed written records in a timely manner. Provide justification for judgments / grading as required by the awarding body in the specified timescale.
2.14 Give constructive feedback to learners and plan for future development.
2.15 Liaise with the external awarding organisation regarding bespoke final moderation visits which includes additional observation under exam conditions as required
2.16 Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality in all learner activities.
2.17 Attend meetings with other assessors and curriculum staff for standardisation and to share good practice and undertake IQA / EQA activities as required.
2.18 Manage the process of reporting absence from college to employers on the day of the absence, ensuring the safety of all learners and in line with college procedures.
2.19 Research and source appropriate placement settings liaising with current and new employers
2.20 Work closely with the Business Development team to ensure timely assessment of new employers are carried out; providing assurance that new employers can meet the evidence requirements of the relevant programme(s).
2.21 Meet employer to complete Health and Safety (H&S) Paperwork and provide information regarding qualification requirements to support students in their placement role.
2.22 Carryout DBS process by checking and authorising documentation, as well as tracking DBS application progress.
2.23 Complete specifications in line with assessor role including risk assessments are shared and students are provided with an induction pack and relevant information required.
2.24 Keep an accurate and up-to-date appointments diary in the specified college system and ensure this is shared with the line manage to support safe working practices.
2.25 Manage holidays in liaison with the wider team to ensure staff are available throughout the year to support new starts, reviews and employer interactions.
2.26 Provide ad hoc cover for classes as requested by line manager. (This does not include planned teaching duties.)
2.27 Support College policies, procedures, and quality assurance systems. To conduct aspects of all duties and responsibilities in line with the Corporation’s Health & Safety Policy in the interests of themselves, other colleagues, and students.
2.28 Prepare for and participate in appropriate College Events (these may include Open Evenings, Parents Evenings, enrolment events
2.29 Engage in professional development including the conduct of and participation in staff appraisal and in-service training based on an assessment of individual needs. Contribute to the mentoring system for new staff and colleagues as appropriate.
2.30 Perform such other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the post as required by the Principal and Chief Executive.
