At Darlington College, digital technology plays a vital role in supporting teaching, learning, and student success. As we continue to invest in our digital services, cyber security, compliance, and cloud technologies, we are seeking an ambitious and customer-focused IT Security Engineer to join our growing Digital Services team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening the College's cyber security posture and ensuring that our systems, data, and digital services remain secure, resilient, and compliant in an increasingly complex threat landscape.

The Role

No two days will be the same. 

As our IT Security Engineer, you will help protect the College's information assets, systems and users while supporting the delivery of a secure, resilient, and compliant digital environment. You will work closely with colleagues across the College, providing expert guidance, implementing security controls, and responding to emerging cyber threats. 

Your responsibilities will include:

• Investigating and responding to cyber security incidents, vulnerabilities, and compliance risks.

• Managing and enhancing Microsoft 365 security technologies, including Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, Conditional Access and Secure Score. 

• Supporting the management of Microsoft Purview compliance solutions, including Data Loss Prevention, Information Protection, eDiscovery, and retention policies.

• Assisting with penetration testing, vulnerability management, and remediation programmes.

• Supporting cyber security awareness initiatives, policy compliance, and staff engagement activities across the College

• Contributing to security projects, service improvements, and the continuous development of the College's cyber resilience capabilities

You will work across a diverse technology environment, engaging with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders while helping to deliver strategic security and compliance objectives. 

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with a commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement.

You will ideally have experience in:

• Microsoft 365 security administration, including Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, Conditional Access, Multi-Factor Authentication, and Intune 

• Microsoft Purview compliance technologies, including DLP, Information Protection, Retention Policies, and eDiscovery. 

• Security incident investigation, risk mitigation, and vulnerability management

• Working with recognised cyber security frameworks such as Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO27001, NCSC CAF or CIS Controls.

• Developing and maintaining technical documentation, standards, and security procedures.
