IT Support Technician

Salary Scale £26,907 /FTE

Be part of the technology that powers education at Darlington College.

At Darlington College, technology is at the heart of how our students learn, how our staff work and how we continue to develop as a modern, forward-thinking College.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused IT Support Technician to join our IT team and help us deliver an excellent digital experience for our students and staff.

This is much more than simply fixing computers. You will work across a busy and varied College environment, supporting the technology used in classrooms, offices and specialist learning spaces, while playing an active role in the continued development of our IT and digital services.

The Role

No two days will be quite the same.

You will provide first and second line technical support across the College, helping staff and students get the most from the technology available to them. From troubleshooting hardware, software and network issues to installing and maintaining equipment, supporting AV technology and assisting with College events, you will be a visible and valued member of our IT team.

You will also have the opportunity to get involved in IT projects and service improvements, helping us introduce new technologies and contributing to the delivery of the College’s Digital and IT Strategies.

We want our IT service to be proactive, approachable and focused on the people who use it. You will therefore need to be just as comfortable talking to a member of staff or supporting a student as you are diagnosing and resolving a technical problem.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about technology and, importantly, passionate about delivering a great service.

You will have:

  • A good working knowledge of desktop technologies, hardware, operating systems and software applications
  • Experience of troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly
  • Excellent customer service skills and a professional, approachable manner
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently while also being an effective member of a wider team
  • A genuine interest in keeping up to date with developments in IT and digital technology
  • Experience of working within an IT support environment, service desk systems, ITIL, mobile devices or working to service levels would be an advantage.
  • Most importantly, we are looking for someone with the right attitude: someone who wants to learn, develop and make a positive difference.

Why Darlington College?

Joining Darlington College means becoming part of an organisation with a clear ambition for the future.

We are continuing to invest in our digital services, technology and infrastructure, recognising the important role they play in delivering an outstanding experience for our students and staff.

For an IT professional, that means the opportunity to work in an interesting and varied environment where technology has a real purpose. The work you do will directly support teaching and learning and help thousands of students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need for their future.

You will join a supportive team where you will have opportunities to develop your technical knowledge, broaden your experience and contribute ideas as our technology and services continue to evolve.

If you are looking for an IT role where you can develop your career, work with a broad range of technologies and see the difference your work makes every day, we would love to hear from you.
