The school supports young people aged 6 - 19 with ASC, communication and sensory needs. They offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/BTEC accreditations alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.

They are looking to appoint someone with experience of delivering outcomes for young people who are of secondary age but working below age related expectations and on a life skills/ functional pathway.

Experience of teaching a range of subjects at KS2/KS3 or 4 and/or experience of delivering entry level and functional skills maths and English, or any other accreditation e.g. Princes trust would be advantageous.

The Role:

As a lifeskills pathway Class Teacher, your role will be to provide high quality teaching that will enable pupils to make progress not just academically but socially and emotionally. You must be creative and have high expectations. An understanding of ASC would be useful to support the planning and delivery of a broad and balanced curriculum to enable the pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas.

To facilitate this, you’ll plan and deliver lessons that support young people achieving accreditation on a lifeskills pathway. You will be able to support the young people to be independent and resilient learners both in and outside of the classroom.

You’ll supervise and provide support and guidance to the Teaching Assistants and Higher Level Teaching Assistants and play a key role in their Professional Development Reviews.

Naturally, you will take responsibility for implementing school policies and practices, including those relating to safeguarding and equality of opportunity. Additionally; you will also be expected to carefully monitoring the health, well-being and personal care of our pupils; informing Pastoral/clinical/ SEND support teams and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

Qualified Teacher status

Experience in achieving outstanding outcomes

Thorough working knowledge of the curriculum and how to adapt this for pupils with SEN

Experience of working with young people with ASD

Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures

Ability to create and maintain strong nurturing relationships with young people

Experience of managing a range of approaches to learning, to include the students with anxiety.

Knowledge of strategies and visual teaching methods to engage reluctant learners.

A flexible approach, a high level creativity and the ability to adapt teaching to meet individual needs
