We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within our the school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with the SEN team and classroom teachers to provide tailored support and assistance to students with ASD, enabling them to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one support to students with ASD, implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies as directed by the SENCo and classroom teachers.

Assist with the integration of students with ASD into mainstream classroom activities, ensuring their needs are met and that they have equal access to the curriculum.

Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with ASD, promoting independence, self-confidence, and positive social interaction.

Collaborate with classroom teachers and other support staff to differentiate learning activities and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.

Monitor and record student progress, behaviours, and achievements, providing regular feedback to the SENCo and contributing to the review and development of individual education plans.

Support students with ASD during transitions between activities and settings, providing reassurance and guidance as needed.

Work in partnership with parents/carers, providing updates on student progress and offering advice and support on strategies for supporting learning and development at home.

Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in an educational or similar setting.

Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and needs of individuals with ASD, including sensory processing differences, communication challenges, and behavioural difficulties.

Ability to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies effectively, adapting approaches to meet the unique needs of each student.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and colleagues.

Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with individuals with ASD, recognizing and celebrating their strengths and achievements.

Relevant qualifications in education, special education, or a related field are desirable but not essential. Experience and a genuine passion for supporting individuals with ASD are paramount.
