Job Description: Teaching Assistant with Care Duties

Salary Range: £17,251 - £18,292 (39 weeks in education) + £2,128 for 160 hours in care, per academic year + £1,000 Retention Bonus**

This school is  a specialist school and college, is seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants with Care Duties to join our compassionate team. As a Teaching Assistant with Care Duties, you will play a vital role in supporting education and fostering independence for our students with severe social communication difficulties, complex learning disabilities, and challenging behaviours.

Responsibilities:

Education Support: Work 36 hours a week over 39 weeks during term time, assisting students aged 5-19 to access therapy-based education. Support students in their learning, assist with medication forms, risk assessments, and maintaining student reports and records.

Care Duties: Work an additional 160 hours per academic year in our registered children’s home, supporting residential students in developing life skills and aspiring towards independence. Some students may require personal care.

Dynamic Risk Assessment: Collaborate with the team to assess and manage challenging situations effectively to ensure the safety and well-being of yourself and others.

Effective Communication: Communicate empathetically with students, families, and professionals to provide the best possible support.

Patience and Adaptability: Adjust to the individual pace and needs of each student, maintaining composure in the face of challenging behaviours.

Requirements:

Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Ability to read, understand, and complete documentation related to student care and education.

Common Sense: Ability to work collaboratively, assess risks dynamically, and prioritize safety.

Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with children, families, and professionals.

Patience: Ability to remain calm and composed in the face of challenging behaviours, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
