PAYROLL & PENSIONS OFFICER - PART TIME – 22.5 HOURS PER WEEK - ALL YEAR ROUND

Are you a payroll professional with a sharp eye for detail and a drive for operational excellence?

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Payroll and Pensions Officer to take ownership of the College’s payroll and pensions operations, reporting to the HR Manager. This is a critical role within the organisation, ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time, and that all payroll and pension processes meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

As our Payroll and Pensions Officer, you will act as the College’s subject matter expert, providing specialist advice to the HR Manager and Finance Director. You will deliver the end-to-end payroll cycle, including starters, leavers, contractual changes, statutory submissions and pensions administration. You will continually review and improve payroll processes, systems and controls, ensuring our practices remain robust, compliant and fit for purpose.

Working closely with the HR and Payroll Assistant, HR Manager and our third-party payroll provider, you will ensure payroll services are delivered efficiently, compliantly and with absolute accuracy. You will also produce payroll forecasts, information for management reports and support internal and external audits, including the completion of Teachers’ Pensions and Local Government Pension Scheme returns.

This role requires a professional who is highly organised, discreet and trustworthy, with the confidence to handle sensitive information and respond to queries with professionalism and clarity.

You will contribute to safeguarding, PREVENT, and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives, supporting a safe and inclusive environment for our students and staff.

While this role has no direct reports or budget responsibility, it carries significant operational accountability. Some flexibility may be required to support business needs, including attendance at occasional College events outside normal working hours. Ideally the 22.5 hours will be worked over 3 or 4 days, with one of these being a Monday or Friday.

If you are a dedicated payroll specialist who takes pride in delivering accurate, compliant services and wants to join a friendly and supportive HR and Payroll team, we would love to hear from you.

Salaries are competitive, based on the Sixth Form College support staff pay scale, depending on qualification and experience (NJC13 to NJC14) currently £30,444 FTE to £31,324 FTE per annum. As the role is part time, the actual salary is:  (0.6081 FTE) £18,513 to £19,048 per annum
