About our school

________

Hayesfield is a thriving, vibrant state school in which girls feel safe, valued and happy. We have a strong belief in traditional values; we set high standards in our work, conduct and appearance. We also place emphasis on developing the skills and values that will enable our students to become thinking, informed and confident adults who will be able to meet the challenges of the 21st Century.

At Hayesfield we consistently strive to make progress and this is reflected in examination results at GCSE and A Level where the already high standards continue to improve. This success is attributed to our focus on the quality of learning and, therefore, our students benefit from being educated by a highly talented, reflective, dedicated and caring team of professionals.

Welcome from the head

________

Hayesfield Girls’ School is a successful school with 1,460 students, situated in two buildings close to the centre of the City of Bath, a World Heritage site. The students are located across two campuses, Brougham Hayes and Upper Oldfield Park. Our new East Wing is the new mixed Sixth Form Centre located on the Upper Oldfield Park Campus.

We have an excellent reputation for Music, Art and Drama and there is a very wide range of sporting and extra-curricular activities. Foreign language exchanges and cultural visits to other countries are regularly undertaken. We wish to promote a strong Home and School Association (PTA) which brings together staff, parents and friends in a variety of educational, recreational, cultural and fundraising activities.

The school intake almost exactly mirrors the national distribution of the population. The prevailing ethos is reflected in our motto: ‘Achieving Ambitions’. All teachers are tutors within teams led by Heads of Year. We pride ourselves on very effective pastoral systems and behaviour is good throughout the school. Academic organisation is in nine faculties, linked to members of the Senior Leadership Team.

The Senior Leadership Team consists of the Headteacher, two Deputy Headteachers and three Assistant Headteachers with specific whole school responsibilities.

In August 2011 the School moved to Academy Status. We need to ensure we make best use of the freedoms associated with this status to ensure our students thrive.

The School has in recent years undergone major building developments to include Sports and Performing Arts facilities in the new West Wing, The Nucleus, a new science block, opened on the Brougham Hayes Campus in September 2012, the Design Studio opened in 2014 for the teaching of technology, creation of a new Sixth Form Centre on the Upper Oldfield Park Campus was completed and opened in November 2014 and the extension to our refectory and creation of a new drama studio in 2021.

All the essential indicators of continued success are currently in place: we are popular with parents and examination results are good. Hayesfield is the girls’ school for Bath and we have developed strong educational alliances.

Hayesfield Girls’ School has a strong partnership with both the Boys’ School, Beechen Cliff School and St Mark's School in Bath through the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, which we became a part of in April 2021. Our Alliance enables us to work together to share the strengths of each school, creating even more opportunities for students, staff and parents. A strong partnership between the three schools ensures that more girls and boys from these schools have opportunities to enrich their curricular and extra-curricular experiences.

If you would like to come and see our school, please contact us at any time.
