The Post

The Henley College are hiring an Assistant Rugby Coach & Boarding Assistant to support the delivery of the boys and girls Rugby programme and assist with all areas of team management and administrative tasks. To be successful in this role you should build a positive team environment and ensure students, facilities and training equipment are adequately prepared.

Key Responsibilities

  • Boarding duties at our Halls of Residency
  • Free fully furnished accommodation
  • The working week starts on Sunday evening when students return and ends on Friday evening when they depart. The working day starts with transporting the students to College. In the afternoon, drive the students back to halls, and light supervision until lights out.
  • The post holder will not be expected to be on duty at weekends.
  • They will be expected to respond to calls and alarms in line with protocols.
  • Support the Girls & Boys Head Coach to design practices and prepare the squad for relevant competition
  • Deliver development focused training sessions with the Boys Head Coach and Strength and Conditioning coaches
  • Support the Girls & Boys Head Coach to build the annual, termly and weekly plans
  • Support the Girls & Boys Head Coach with technical and statistical analysis of the game and be prepared to present this to individuals and groups
  • Deliver 1 to 1 skill sessions with players
  • Contribute to all team meetings, including debriefs, strategy and planning meetings
  • Form strong working relationships with players
  • Be available and able to travel with the teams on all away trips

General Responsibilities

  • Comply with any rules and regulations which the College may from time to time issue, to ensure the efficient operation of its business and the welfare and interest of its employees and learners.
  • Work flexibly and efficiently to maintain the highest professional standards and to promote and implement the policies of the College.
  • To ensure adherence to all College policies and procedures including Staff Code of Conduct, Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education and IT Policy and procedures.
  • To work to the College quality standards and systems within the context of the College quality systems.
  • To ensure continuous professional development (CPD) requirements as specified by the College and that may be identified during college processes, for example Developmental reviews.
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities as are appropriate to this level of post.


  • Hold a minimum of a RFU / UKCC Level 2 Coaching Qualification or its recognised equivalent (essential)
  • Hold a current driving license (essential)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and students (essential)
  • Experience of working with aspirational players (desirable)
  • An appreciation for talent identification and long-term talent development (desirable)
  • An appreciation & experiences of different coaching methods (desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills with people of all levels as well as interpersonal skills & able to problem solve with/between students;
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to deal well with pressure and multi – task

Terms of Employment

Tenure of post: Permanent, All Year Round

Hours Per Week: 37 hours per week
