Prep School Teaching Assistants – Casual
Location: Howell's School, Llandaff
The Role:
We are looking for Teaching Assistants who wish to join Howell’s on a casual/supply basis, to provide support and cover in Howell’s Prep School. The successful candidates will play a complementary and supporting role to the teacher in encouraging students in their learning and the acquisition of skills
This will involve working with the class teacher and pastoral support team to ensure that all students are appropriately supported in all areas of their learning: academic, practical, behavioural or social:
- Adapt and implement intervention strategies for individual, small groups and class groups of students.
- Prepare and adapt appropriate resources for lessons.
- Support the effective delivery of the curriculum for all pupils and to help raise standards of achievement.
- Discuss the development of work and support programmes for pupils, reflecting on their progress in order to further support learning.
- Ensure that all pupils are adequately supported in the acquisition of personal skills through either direct or indirect intervention strategies as directed by the teacher.
- Under the direction of the teacher, promote and model positive behaviour in all teaching areas.
Additionally, to take part in trips and educational visits if required, working with the class teacher and other accompanying staff to ensure the provision appropriate to support students’ learning in these environments.
Skills and experience should include:
- Educated to GCSE or equivalent, with a good grounding in English and Maths
- The ability to establish positive relationships with children in order to support them in a learning environment.
- Ability to provide appropriate levels of individual attention, reassurance and help to achieve the intended learning outcomes under the direction of the teacher.
- Being able to demonstrate active listening skills and using age-appropriate language and other communication skills to which children can relate.
- Experience in an educational setting is desirable
About Howell’s
Howell’s School, Llandaff, is one of the oldest girls’ school in Wales, having opened in August 1860. Since then, it has steadily expanded, both in terms of student numbers and physical size. The school now caters for girls from the age of 3 to 16 and girls and boys 16-18. Since 1980 it has been a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the largest organisation of independent schools in the UK. The Prep School is set in its own grounds on the same extensive site as the Senior School. Specialist teaching rooms include a Library, Music, ICT and Art/DT room, with interactive whiteboards in each of the 14 classrooms, and every room is well-resourced with lively and colourful displays. The girls take full advantage of the facilities in the Senior School also, the indoor swimming pool, the Sports Pavilion, the music instrumental teaching rooms and the Great Hall.
