Do you love working with animals and want to help inspire the next generation of animal care professionals?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Animal Care Technician to join our friendly team at Peterborough College.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who’s passionate about animal welfare, enjoys hands-on work, and takes pride in creating a safe and stimulating environment for both animals and students.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining our animal care facilities and supporting learners as they gain valuable practical experience with a wide variety of species.

What you’ll do

  • Provide daily care and husbandry for a range of animals
  • Supervise and support students undertaking practical activities
  • Assist lecturers in preparing and running animal care sessions
  • Maintain stock levels, equipment and facilities to a high standard
  • Ensure the animal units remain clean, safe and well-organised
  • Support weekend feeding duties on a rota basis
  • Promote good health, safety and welfare practices at all times

About you

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • A Level 3 qualification in Animal Care or Management (or equivalent)
  • Experience working with a variety of animals
  • A caring, practical, and proactive approach to animal welfare
  • Strong teamwork, organisation, and communication skills
  • A genuine interest in supporting students in their learning
  • Experience ordering stock or completing maintenance tasks would be a bonus, but full training and support will be provided.

Why join us?

At Peterborough College, part of the Inspire Education Group (IEG), you’ll be part of a supportive and passionate team that values hands-on learning and animal welfare. We offer:

  • 30 days’ annual leave (pro rata) + bank holidays + discretionary days
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Ongoing professional development
  • A welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment
  • The chance to make a real impact on students’ futures — and care for amazing animals every day

How to apply

If you’re ready to bring your passion for animals into an educational setting, we’d love to hear from you!
