At Peterborough College, we’re passionate about inclusive education and empowering all students to reach their full potential. We’re now looking for an Assistant Head of Faculty – SEND & Learner Engagement to help shape the future of learner support and curriculum excellence.
In this key leadership role, you’ll work alongside the Head of Faculty to lead, support and inspire teaching and support staff across our SEND and learner engagement curriculum areas. You’ll champion inclusive, high-quality education and ensure every learner has the opportunity to succeed — no matter their background or barriers.
Your Core Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and day-to-day operational support across SEND and learner engagement programmes
- Support curriculum planning and delivery aligned with local skills and employment needs
- Champion high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment across your areas
- Lead and support teams to deliver inclusive, engaging learning experiences
- Drive recruitment, student satisfaction, retention, and progression
- Maintain high standards through effective performance management and quality assurance
- Prepare and support the faculty for Ofsted and other inspections
- Collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance learner opportunities and outcomes
- Line manage staff, oversee timetabling and ensure learner needs are met effectively
- Teach a limited number of sessions within your specialist area, modelling best practice
What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for a passionate educator with strong leadership experience and a background in SEND or learner engagement.
Essential:
- A full teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DET or equivalent)
- Substantial experience teaching in a relevant subject area
- Proven success in leading or coordinating curriculum areas or programmes
- Strong knowledge of FE sector quality processes, Ofsted expectations, and learner needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to inspire teams and students alike
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
Desirable:
- Experience line-managing staff or leading performance reviews
- Management qualification or willingness to work towards one
- Assessor/Internal Verifier qualifications
- Experience responding to Ofsted or external audits
