Are you passionate about helping learners find confidence and success in English?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in Functional Skills English to join our friendly and supportive team at Peterborough College.

You’ll play a key role in guiding learners from Entry Level 1 through to GCSE, helping them gain vital communication skills that open doors to further study, employment, and personal growth.

Whether you’re an experienced teacher or just starting out and working towards your teaching qualification, we’d love to hear from you. What matters most is your passion for English, your creativity in the classroom, and your ability to inspire confidence and progress in every learner.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering engaging, high-quality lessons in English that motivate and support learners of all abilities.
  • Planning and developing exciting learning materials and assessments that meet curriculum standards.
  • Embedding literacy skills across all learning activities and promoting real-world application.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to review and improve the English curriculum.
  • Monitoring progress, providing constructive feedback, and helping students achieve their goals.
  • Taking part in course coordination, team meetings, and enrichment activities that make our department a great place to learn and work.

What we’re looking for

  • A teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • A Level 5 qualification or above in a relevant subject.
  • Strong knowledge of English from Entry Level to GCSE.
  • A genuine passion for teaching and supporting learners to achieve.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills.
  • A proactive, positive, and collaborative approach to teaching and teamwork.
  • Experience in Further Education or course coordination is desirable, but not essential — we’ll support the right person to develop their skills and confidence in these areas.
