Actual Annual Salary: £31,650 - £49,084 (M1 to UPS3) plus TLR 2BB - £7,711 per annum

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: Full-time (32.5 hours per week)

Additional role info: Working Pattern = Monday to Friday

John Cabot Academy are looking for a passionate and inspiring Head of Year, ideally specialising in History.

You will have the opportunity to use your talents to play a key role in championing the success and life chances of all children in our trust. Our commitment to high expectations and standards, a joy-filled contemporary curriculum and excellent teaching means that we can create more opportunities for the lifelong success of our pupils as they become young adults.

In addition to teaching 21 periods a week, you will lead a non-teaching Student Support Leader and together will provide the pastoral support for a year group. This will include behaviour, attendance and safeguarding.

About you:

You will be/have:

  • a qualified teacher or hold an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • able to deliver the curriculum in History and consistently teach high quality lessons across relevant key stages.
  • able to meet the needs of learners from key identified groups, including pupil premium, looked after children, SEND and High Attaining students.
  • Experience of providing support to particular groups of students, including experience of working one to one with students to assist progress and attendance 
  • Able to develop and maintain appropriate contact and relationships with families and carers of children 
  • Familiar with assessment of student progress and reading/ interpreting data 
  • Experience of working with challenging young people; disengaged or demotivated about study 
  • Able to work with students, colleagues and parents with a high level of professionalism 
  • a strong communicator with the ability to embrace change, motivate colleagues and build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • able to recognise, value and support the delivery of opportunities which extend beyond the confines of classroom delivery and seek to enrich and add value to the students experience & learning.
  • empowered to develop your own expert practice and support the development of others.
  • highly competent in all elements of the Teachers’ Standards and your achievements and contribution will be substantial and sustained as an Upper Pay Scale teacher.
