Engineering Assessor

South Bank Colleges is a vibrant and inclusive place to work, where staff are united by a shared ambition to transform lives through education. Rated Good by Ofsted in 2025, inspectors praised the college’s “strong culture of inclusion” and the way staff “foster an understanding of diversity” across all campuses. Adult learning was rated Outstanding, and learners spoke of the college as “an integral part of their journey in life.” With a broad curriculum offer, expert tutors and deep links to the local community and employers, South Bank Colleges is a rewarding environment for education professionals to thrive.

We are seeking an experienced and committed Engineering Assessor to join our growing Apprenticeships team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing learners enrolled on the Level 3 Mechatronics maintenance technician apprenticeship standard (ST1326). This role involves delivering high-quality assessment, supporting workplace learning, and ensuring apprentices develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required by employers and aligned to the standard.

You will work collaboratively with curriculum staff, employers, and external bodies to support learners’ progression, ensure timely completion of the programme, and maintain excellent quality assurance.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate must have the following:

  • A relevant Engineering qualification at Level 3 or above (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Maintenance Engineering)
  • A recognised Assessor qualification (e.g. TAQA, A1, or equivalent)
  • Industry experience in a relevant engineering discipline
  • A thorough understanding of the Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship standard (ST1326), including workplace competencies, off-the-job training, and gateway requirements
  • Proven experience in assessing apprentices within the FE or work-based learning sector
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage caseloads, track progress and provide detailed, constructive feedback
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a professional and inclusive approach to working with learners and employers
  • A commitment to quality assurance, safeguarding, and continuous professional development

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual passionate about vocational education to support the next generation of engineers and technicians.

We are an inclusive and welcoming college that is highly responsive in meeting the needs of our students. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are central to our values and behaviours, and we seek applicants who are fully committed to enhancing our work in this area.

If you feel this is the right opportunity for you and you have the right skills and experience, we look forward to receiving an application from you.
