Catering and Hospitality Technician

THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Catering Technician who will be responsible for managing purchases for both the commercial and curriculum provision at the Orpington site. The technician will support the Curriculum area and Head Chef with food safety management and lead on any EHO visits as well as to lead on all Health and Safety practices for both BR6 and the curriculum kitchens and manage service desk requests for maintenance. They will also provide support for the BR6 and curriculum kitchen training sessions in Orpington and organise cleaning services including deep cleans at agreed points.

To work hours as requested by the Curriculum and Commercial Manager, usually 7.00am – 1.30pm with a 30-minute break, Monday to Friday. This post requires flexibility therefore with notice, there may be a requirement to work different hours including evenings and possible weekends. This requirement is to support the restaurant service and events such as special functions, curriculum open days and enrolment periods.

Additional responsibilities will include:

- Raise food orders and manage deliveries

- Food safety management / HACCP for BR6 and Curriculum kitchens

- To prepare food orders, equipment and specialist supplies for BR6 and training sessions.

- Regular COSHH checks on all cleaning materials (kept in a metal cabinet away from the food room) and report on low stocks and to keep accurate records and control forms.

- Washing and maintenance of any restaurant linen and any student, staff or LSA specialist uniform.

- Manage waste processes, recycling and pest control.

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 years’ experience in a similar commercial role and some experience working in an FE college within a Catering and Hospitality department. They should hold a Food Safety qualification at Level 2 or 3 and have and knowledge of HACCP and COSHH practices.

The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, a flexible and adaptable approach to work as well as the ability to solve problems and make decisions. Good knowledge of IT systems including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint would be desirable.
