The Role;
Are you passionate about teaching English? At Newham College, We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our dynamic team as English Lecturer, teaching 16-19 students.
In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of helping our students develop literacy skills that will open doors to further education, employment, and lifelong success.
Key responsibilities;
• Deliver engaging lessons that inspire students to achieve their best, using innovative teaching methods tailored to a variety of learning styles.
• Support students in overcoming challenges, boosting their confidence, and helping them achieve their qualifications.
• Play an integral role in guiding learners through their academic journey, offering advice, encouragement, and pastoral care to help them thrive.
• Work as part of a collaborative team dedicated to continuous improvement, curriculum development, and delivering excellence in teaching and learning.
Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience.
• Holds a full teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, or equivalent)
• Possesses GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
• Brings a passion for teaching and a proven ability to engage and inspire students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
• Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
• Is proficient in using digital tools such as Microsoft Office, interactive whiteboards, MS Teams, and Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).
Skills and Experience:
• A proven ability to deliver high-quality lessons and support learners in achieving their academic goals.
• Familiarity with designing engaging lesson plans and materials aligned with curriculum objectives.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
• Ability to inspire and motivate students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of ability.

These include (some of which are dependent on the role and the individual): Enhanced DBS including Children’s Barred List check, DfE teaching/management Barred List check, on-line searches, overseas criminal record check, evidence of identity and Right to Work in the UK, satisfactory references, confirmation of medical fitness, evidence of relevant qualifications and a check of previous employment history.

The salary for this position is inclusive of London weighting. Please note that it is Newham College’s policy to offer all roles at the entry point of the salary scale advertised. However, based on your qualifications and experience, we may offer a higher starting salary within the specified salary range.
