Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Learning Support Assistant to join our Foundation Learning team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a supportive, dynamic environment and is ready to take the next step in leading and developing a team while supporting learners to achieve their full potential.

In this key role, you will work closely with the LSA Manager to coordinate and lead a team of Learning Support Assistants, ensuring high-quality support for learners across the department. You will play a vital part in creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive.

Key responsibilities:

Lead, support, and line manage a team of Learning Support Assistants

Coordinate staff timetables, deployment, and daily cover arrangements

Support learners with SEND, including personal care and medical needs

Deliver and oversee small group learning activities and enrichment sessions

Supervise learners during lessons, transitions, and off-site activities

Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals

Contribute to EHCP reviews, enrolment, and transition processes

Monitor attendance and support strategies to improve learner engagement

Ensure safeguarding, health & safety, and inclusion are embedded in all practice

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

Experience supporting learners with SEND, including complex needs

Proven ability to manage challenging behaviour positively

Experience providing personal care and administering medication

Ability to lead and motivate a team of support staff

Knowledge of EHCPs and annual review processes

Strong communication skills with students, staff, and parents/carers

Good organisational and problem-solving skills

Minimum Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent)

Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing
