About Us:

Newham College London, now merged with NewVIc Sixth Form College, is the largest post-16 education provider in Newham. With campuses in East Ham, Stratford, Plaistow, and the London City Institute of Technology (LCIoT) in Canning Town, we serve over 11,000 students across a range of pathways – including 16–18 study, adult education, apprenticeships, and higher education.

The Role:

We are seeking a proactive and compassionate Transition Officer to support learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or Additional Learning Support (ALS) as they move into college.

In this rewarding role, you will coordinate a high-quality transition programme, working closely with learners, families, schools, and external agencies to ensure a smooth and supportive start. You’ll act as a key point of contact, helping to identify needs early, plan appropriate support, and promote positive learner outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

Supporting learners from enquiry through to enrolment

Liaising with schools, local authorities, and parents/carers

Coordinating transition plans and pre-entry activities

Contributing to EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings

Working collaboratively with internal teams to ensure joined-up support

Our Ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

Experience working with young people or adults with SEND

Good understanding of transition into further education

Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain information clearly and sensitively

Ability to build positive relationships with learners, families, and professionals

Highly organised, with strong time-management skills

Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Confident using IT systems such as MS Office and Teams

Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field
