JOB PURPOSE:

To provide technical support and assistance to the Electrical and Carpentry department to facilitate the teaching and learning of our Apprentices. Ensuring the maintenance of the workshops and equipment is up to required standard across all disciplines and assist in stock/tool control. To ensure that all areas meet the obligations to and improves Health and Safety.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Previous experience as a technician (workshop Supervisor) within a construction environment environment.
  • Highly organised with effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and an awareness of health and safety best practice.
  • Educated to level 2 or above desirable in a construction sector.
  • Proficient administration skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work flexibly with a “Can Do” attitude to an ever-changing workplace.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for Risk assessments and COSHH control in designated areas.
  • Work as part of the apprenticeship team to ensure the College meets its obligations and improve Health and Safety, whilst ensuring all departments are maintained to suitable and safe condition at all times.
  • Manage the stock control (this includes tools and equipment and materials in the area).
  • Manage stores, to record all deliveries and maintain accurate records of orders, invoices and delivery notes.
  • Raise the orders of relevant materials and collect small items from local suppliers.
  • Ensure that the workshops, tools, equipment and stores are clean, tidy, safe and secure at all times.
  • Communicate information required to the Programme Manager to ensure effective technician support for the area.
  • Organise, prepare materials and supervise all workshop activities.
  • Contribute to student learning by supporting lecturers and students as appropriate.
  • Liaise with Tutors in order to ensure delivery sessions are all prepared and planned accordingly
  • Perform other duties as may be required consistent with the grade and responsibilities of the post.
