With more than 2,000 students, 200 staff and numerous visitors attending the College each day, Queen Mary’s is a very busy place. The site is large at 23 acres and includes a Sports Centre and a Theatre. The buildings vary in age and furnishings and a dedicated team of cleaning staff are employed to keep the site a welcoming, clean, safe and pleasant place for everyone.
We are looking for strong team players who will take pride in their role and help us provide a great place to work and study. Ideally, we are seeking several individuals to work approximately 6-8.30am Monday-Friday on a temporary basis however, other hours such as the middle of the day will be considered.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The ideal applicant for this role is someone who can demonstrate; the ability to work on their own and as part of a team and will take pride in the place that they work.
Purpose of Job: To maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the College, keeping the buildings clean and tidy and free from litter.
Accountable to: Cleaning Site Manager

• Machinery and cleaning materials are used safely and stored securely
The person(s) appointed will be able to demonstrate:
• The ability to demonstrate clear communication and conversation skills in English and to show effective understanding of written documents relating to the role.
• A clear understanding of the precautions needed to use equipment and chemicals.
All necessary training will be provided.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Cleaning, which includes, but is not limited to, washing, mopping, sweeping, dusting, polishing and vacuum cleaning of areas site wide to the required standard.
• Emptying litter bins and removing waste to designated areas.
• Cleaning of toilets and washrooms to the required standard where allocated.
• Spray cleaning, scrubbing floors and re-sealing with polish.
• Using electrical and mechanical equipment where necessary (scrubbing machines, wet pick-up machines, vacuum cleaners).
• Cleaning of working surfaces and other furniture as directed.
• Occasional and emergency cleaning (e.g., excess water, first aid emergencies, etc.).
• Raise concerns with their line manager regarding safety or maintenance issues (e.g. trip hazards)
• Support, if and when required, of the Site Services Team, of which the Cleaning Team is a part.
• Undertake any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined or as reasonably directed by the Principal.

Contractual Information
Salary (casual): £9.00 per hour (point 1 on the Sixth Form Colleges Support Staff pay scale).
Typical working hours: 6.00am – 8.30am, Monday – Friday ideally, however, other hours such as the middle of the day or evening work until 6pm, may be required
Holiday entitlement: Casual workers are given an additional paid holiday allowance on a pro rata basis approximately equal to 12.07% of hrs worked.
Other terms of employment: The successful candidate will have the choice whether or not to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. The College contributes a monthly sum equivalent to 19.1% of your salary, whilst staff at this salary level contribute approx. 5.5%.
