Staff have high expectations of all students and working relationships are positive and supportive. There is an excellent record of student achievement on all courses. Staff work closely together in planning the delivery of courses, developing teaching materials and exchanging ideas, resources and teaching strategies. The department values an approach to teaching Esports which focuses on preparing students for the various different career pathways offered by the Esports industry.
The Esports courses currently offered by the department include:
BTEC Extended Certificate in Esports

The department has recently benefited from substantial investment across all areas. Esports students have access to a brand new esports facility based on a £300k investment and grant. The building consists of 52 gaming machines, a yoga and Pilates room, streaming room and traditional classrooms for the BTEC and enrichment Esports delivery. This state-of-the-art facility allows for our enrichment students to compete in the British Esports Student Champs tournaments. Esports lessons take place in dedicated teaching rooms with excellent facilities for shoutcasting, live streaming, digital game design, sound and video production. Students benefit from access to a range of software to enhance their production work including Adobe Creative Cloud and Unity.
The aim of the department is to enrich the learning experience of our students by delivering the syllabus in a manner which is contemporary, varied and challenging. The Department benefits from its interdisciplinary approach which encourages cross-college collaborative learning. We also enjoy excellent industry links which gives students the opportunity to work with established and relevant organisations.
Wherever possible, we can offer flexibility in the subjects to be taught, taking into account your personal experience, skills and preferences. As a Personal Tutor, you will also motivate, monitor, support and guide students’ academic progress through regular one-to-one consultations.
Our priorities are to maintain and extend our success in this new and exciting field and to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement. We seek to ensure that we provide students with a high-quality experience of learning that is innovative, interesting and challenging and helps them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for their progression.
