To lead, manage and develop a new market leading Business Development Division within the College, which is commercially focused and responsive to the needs of employers.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Management
a) Lead, manage and establish a team of highly skilled and motivated business development staff, to generate new employer responsive from new and existing clients in the West Midlands region.
b) Ensure all targets set for Business Development are achieved and regularly monitored within agreed budgets and timescales, and in full compliance with the college’s quality systems and procedures.
c) Provide encouragement, support and guidance to staff in order to continue to raise the quality of provision and the level of customer service provided to employers, learners, external agencies and other college staff.
d) Work cooperatively with other cross college Faculty Managers to ensure an effective transfer of business generated to the curriculum delivery and support divisions within the college.
2. Main Duties and Responsibilities
a) Support the College’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) in developing and implementing strategies to assist the college in achieving its strategic plan.
b) Set up, lead and manage the Business Development team to achieve annually agreed aims and objectives.
c) Plan, agree and manage annual divisional budgets in full compliance with financial regulations.
d) Set up and regularly monitor performance targets for key personnel within the Business Development team, to achieve annually agreed divisional targets.
e) Monitor and report on progress against performance targets.
f) Develop quality systems and procedures in relation to the Business Development operations and ensure all staff are aware of and adhere to quality systems and procedures in relation to the Business Development operations.
g) Prepare for and manage internal and external audits and inspections of Business Development operations.
h) Sell the College’s training and recruitment services to employers to achieve agreed targets, including identification, generation and follow up of leads and preparing/ presenting proposals.
i) Ensure that business proposals and contracts are drawn up in line with standard college practice and meet the requirements of the college’s Financial Regulations.
j) Plan a range of income generating training courses to meet the existing and future needs of employers, including research and use of the customer feedback.
k) Develop the customer relationships with existing and new clients to maximise business opportunities.
l) Develop and manage the college systems and databases in relation to business development activity.
m) Attend business network events to promote and market College and generate potential business leads.
n) Liaise with key external stakeholders.
o) Liaise with telemarketing organisations to develop campaign briefs and data sets to generate new business for the College.
p) To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade.
3. Relationship to other post-holders within the College
a) The Director is accountable to the Vice Principal responsible for Business Development.
b) The Director will be responsible for liaising with the College’s Faculties and Divisions, in particular the curriculum, marketing, human resources, finance and MIS divisions in relation to any Business Development activity.
c) The Director will be responsible for supporting curriculum in understanding local market information.
d) The Director will be responsible for preparing an annual business plan on apprenticeships and other employer responsive activity proposed for the forthcoming year. This will involve liaison with and support from the various faculties engaged by the Business Development Team.
4. Performance Management
a) This job description provides only an outline of key accountabilities and responsibilities of the Director for Business Development and will be subject to review and change as required.
b) The Director for Business Development will be expected to achieve a series of personal and overall team business generation targets each annum, to demonstrate a satisfactory level of performance. Performance will be reviewed and monitored on a monthly basis by the Vice Principal responsible for Business Development.
c) The Director for Business Development’s appraisal takes place in accordance with the College’s Appraisal Scheme.
