The Role

This key post as a temporary, full time Learning Support Interventions Teacher, is available from 15 September 2025. As a maternity cover post the contract will last for a maximum of 52 weeks or until the post holder returns should this be earlier.

This role has a focus on the coordination and teaching of our strong interventions programme, which provides a range of small group support for students with EHCPs and for those who are supported by SEND Support. This includes interventions in literacy, language comprehension, study skills, life skills, and in social, emotional, and mental health support.

The Learning Support/Special Needs Team is led by a SENDCO and two Deputy SENDCOs, who in turn are line managed by a Deputy Headteacher. We have a large team of experienced Learning Support Assistants as well as administrative support.

Students with special educational needs are integrated at our school, but there is some provision for the less able ones to receive extra help. Mixed ability teaching takes place in some subject areas; benefiting each other, socially and academically. We are supporting an increasing number of students with additional needs and are constantly on the lookout for expertise and resources to strengthen our team and benefit the young people we work with.

We have good relationships with a wide range of external agencies for students with additional needs, such as behaviour consultants, a Speech and Language Therapist, Counsellors, and an Educational Psychologist. The calm, purposeful, happy atmosphere of the school makes this a positive and supportive place to work.

We are passionate about providing opportunity for all staff to develop. The School invests heavily and productively in ensuring that staff and leaders have every opportunity to develop their expertise for the benefit of students. Professional development for staff is extremely well planned and implemented; it is linked closely to teachers’ targets for improvement.

SMRT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and so safeguarding checks will be undertaken as part of the recruitment and selection process. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake an enhanced Criminal Disclosure. We welcome applicants regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or religion. It is an offence to apply for this role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
