We are seeking a highly motivated individual to teach and assess practical hard and soft landscape skills to groups of students as part of their animal management course.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your teaching expertise and educate the next generation of animal carers in areas such as animal husbandry & welfare, practical habitat management and the maintenance and construction of boundaries, structures and surfaces.

About the role: 🐾

We need a passionate and creative person to take on the estate skills syllabus and utilise it to improve animal enclosures, make enrichment items and to help with the Animal Health Welfare and Research Centres’ vision of conservation education and rewilding the animal site to increase native species biodiversity.

Part of your role will be wildlife surveying to assess if practices have been successful. To accompany teaching landscape skills, you will be teaching animal husbandry to a varying level of students as part of their T-level qualification.

You will be expected to deliver exceptional practical teaching using a range of equipment as well as contributing to the landscape management of the zoo and companion animal site.

You will also have co-responsibility for a workshop to include tool and equipment maintenance. The AHWRC is a leading facility that holds a zoo license, is BIAZA accredited and had a 5* pet shop and dog boarding license, whereby you will be teaching to highlight these good practices.

What we’re looking for: 🌱

We welcome applicants who can bring a blend of practical and animal-focused expertise, including:

- Experience in construction, landscaping or habitat management

- Some supervisory or teaching experience

- Hands-on experience working with a variety of animal species

- A relevant qualification at National Diploma level or higher (desirable)

- A teaching qualification – or willingness to work towards one

If you’re creative, practical, and passionate about both animals and the environments they live in, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a real impact!
