ABOUT THE ROLE

A Level Geography is a well-established subject within the 6th Form. Students often combine Geography with subjects such as History, Law and English. The college has a good track record of students progressing to good universities to study Geography. Geology is a newly introduced subject which has been developed to support students wanting to pursue an environmental studies based programme of learning. We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who wants to offer inspiring stimulating lessons to our young people in both subjects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep up to date with current developments and adapt to changes in Geography
  • Carry out, collate and feedback initial and/or diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support as required, providing differentiated learning strategies to enable students to achieve their primary learning goal.
  • Actively support the embedding of Maths and English into vocational area and participate in curriculum development regarding the teaching and learning of Geography.
  • Evaluate and assess (formative and summative) the work of learners in relation to the curriculum criteria and provide timely constructive and helpful learner feedback.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE

Qualifications and training

  • Teaching qualification, e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE or DTLLs, or a firm commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET)
  • Possess an appropriate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject

Skills and expertise

  • Ability to work independently using own initiative or within a team
  • Very good up to date subject knowledge
  • Strong commitment to participate in staff development programme
