Senior Teaching Assistant - Sports Coach/Behaviour Mentor

required at The Fusion Academy - a brand new school for young people with communication & interaction difficulties/ autism aged 7-19 (key stages 2-5)

Salary: Grade 7

This equates to £16,991 per annum

37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Start date: ASAP

As a Senior Teaching Assistant, you will support Class Teachers in enabling children and young people with a wide range of needs to succeed at school. You will put in place strategies that support pupils to engage in the curriculum and will be responsible for planning learning sequences (with support from the teacher), preparing resources and directing classroom support staff. You will also be required to support our outreach transition for individual pupils which may include working in their homes or other venues in the community. It will therefore be necessary to have a full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance.

You may be required to be involved with planning and delivering teaching for some sessions within the week if teachers are absent from school for a short time or undertaking meetings within school time.

Each Senior Teaching Assistant will also have a whole school responsibility in a specialist area and part of their week will involve delivering 1:1 or group interventions in this area, as well as offering advice to other staff.

The successful applicant must be committed to providing the best possible education to children and young people with communication and interaction needs/ autism. They must be understanding of the complex difficulties our students face and passionate about breaking down barriers to give them the best possible chances in life.

We are looking for someone with a positive attitude who works well with others.

You must be confident in leading teaching sessions and running 1:1 and group sessions - demonstrating initiative, organisation, resourcefulness and flexibility

Skills and experience in communication and interaction needs/autism would be of benefit, however, there will be a full induction programme for staff when they start at the school. What is important to us is commitment to our overall ethos and approach.

As a result of their special educational needs, many of our students will struggle with emotional regulation and this can lead to significant challenging behaviours. Candidates need to be prepared to adopt a problem-solving approach to the challenges that those young people bring.

Recognising these strange times in which we are living recruitment is likely to be carried out using video links and online tasks. We will expect successful candidates to start their role under the direction of the headteacher and to be willing to undertake training prior to starting their new role. The post is subject to completion of a satisfactory 6 month probation period.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and subject to a check being carried out at an Enhanced level by the Disclosure and Barring Service regarding any previous criminal record.

The Fusion Academy shares a commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Our commitment is underpinned by robust processes and procedures that seek to maximise opportunity, minimise risk and continuously promote a culture that embraces the ethos of safeguarding amongst our workforce.

Application forms are available via Eteach or by contacting Sonia Garner-Jones at the school.
