Thorpe CofE Primary School seeks an experienced Special Needs Assistant to provide support in Year 6 until 22nd July 2025. The hours of work are Monday to Friday from 8.40am to 12.30pm with a 15 minute unpaid morning break.

This is a term time only contract commencing ASAP. 

We require a highly skilled, experienced special needs assistant to work with a child who:

  • has severe difficulties with expressive language and significant difficulty with their understanding of language
  • has language difficulties that are sometimes the cause of misunderstandings with their peers. They will sometimes resort to hitting their peers if unable to communicate their thoughts verbally
  • has developmental delay with some social communication difficulties with impulsive and physical behaviour
  • requires visual aids to access the curriculum
  • can only attend whole class lessons for up to 10 minutes, with support
  • requires individualised learning and /or learning in a small group
  • can get very frustrated (swearing, physical outbursts) if they cannot get what they want and can take long to calm, with adult support
  • struggles to manage and regulate their emotions (particularly their anxiety, frustration and anger) impacting on their ability to attend to learning opportunities

We need someone who is:

  • proficient to deliver a language skills programme such as "PORIC"
  • confident to support with low attention, understanding and expressive language
  • confident to carry out specific programmes as recommended by SLT
