TEACHER OF MUSIC

(1-Year Fixed-term Contract)

MPS/UPR (Outer London)

Required from September 2025

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Teacher of Music, who is a skilful practical musician, to share their knowledge and love of their subject in our vibrant, caring and diverse community, where a ‘Love of Learning’ is evident in every student interaction. We greatly value the role that music plays in the curricular and co-curricular life of the school and in the all-round development of the students.

There is an extensive range of concerts throughout the year for our thriving orchestras, choirs and instrumental ensembles, and you will be continuing the school’s strong tradition of delivering outstanding performances in school and at various external concerts. Alongside this, examination results are also outstanding and many of our young musicians go on to study music at Oxbridge (many with choral scholarships), Russell Group Universities and music conservatoires.

Our thriving and committed department is enhanced by a large team of peripatetic staff and a music administrator. Additionally, the department is well supported by a highly motivated and hard-working parent body, Tiffin Girls’ Music Society, which has a high profile at events and is an active fundraiser.

Candidates suitable for the role will:

• be confident in teaching Music to GCSE students and with the potential to teach to A-Level students. New teachers will be supported in developing the knowledge and skills necessary for teaching A level over time

• be an active practical musician with choral or instrumental experience, who is keen to be involved in co-curricular music making. There are opportunities to work in collaboration with the drama department to co-produce shows and musical productions

• be willing to use a range of strategies to teach across the ability range

• have some experience in the use of Sibelius and GarageBand to enhance teaching

• be passionate about personal and professional development and demonstrate a willingness to engage with the findings of evidence-based research through our whole school CPD programme.

• help extend and enrich students’ school experiences beyond the curriculum

• have the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and parents

We can offer:

• the opportunity to join a highly successful and collaborative department with a wide range of expertise

• a well-established curriculum with high quality lesson resources available for all Key Stages

• a stimulating and creative environment in a school where extra-curricular activities flourish

• a diverse workplace, with an engaged student and staff community who are currently collaborating on a review of the school’s approach to equality, diversity and inclusion

• a two-week October half term

• a caring environment where the work-life balance of teachers is proactively supported by the governors and senior leadership team

• a wide range of online paid resources to support teaching and learning

• numerous other benefits (please see our attached information pack)
