Thank you for your interest in the position of Curriculum Leader of Health and Wellbeing at Abersychan School. This is an extremely important position in our school, as we aim to sustain strong outcomes in PE and sport, in addition to the valuable provision offered to students in PSHE.
Sport is a key part of life at Abersychan School. We have excellent, new facilities, including a full‑size 3G pitch. Students are given the opportunity to try a wide variety of sports in their lessons, during lunchtime and after school. Our school teams give students purpose and identity. Many students have achieved honours at district, county and national level. The sporting opportunities at Abersychan School enable our student athletes to reach the higher echelons of their sport. In recent years, we have produced international sportspeople in football, rugby, cricket, netball, table tennis, boxing, swimming and more.
Abersychan School is an 11–16 comprehensive school which ensures that children of all abilities fulfil their potential. We are a school that is committed to ensuring that all our young people are happy, successful and ready for life beyond school. Our expectations and standards are high. We have a committed and caring staff who are dedicated to ensuring that each child achieves their personal best. The school currently has 714 students, 46 teachers and 42 members of support staff. The school serves an area of socio‑economic disadvantage, and 30% of students are entitled to free school meals.
The school’s aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high‑quality learning experiences and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, musical and extra‑curricular activities. Students are happy, hard‑working and positive about the school. They are genuinely an asset to our community. We have fantastic parents and governors who are very supportive in helping us ensure that each student receives the best possible education. The school has been widely commended for making significant improvements to behaviour management and we are striving to secure the highest standards through outstanding provision.
The staff body at Abersychan School is a hard‑working and dynamic team, with a shared vision that all students experience the highest quality teaching and learning to achieve their best. The school is well resourced with digital teaching tools, including interactive whiteboards, visualisers and Chromebooks. Provision for the development of students’ skills is bolstered by strong leadership, a coherent curriculum model and a clear strategic plan.
