William Hulme’s Grammar School is the second most over-subscribed school in Manchester and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1500 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

The Academy has a relatively new Sixth Form Centre, a two-form entry Primary Phase and has specialist rooms in the Secondary Phase, including fully equipped science labs, a library, ICT resource centre, music practice rooms, design, technology and art rooms. There is also a sports hall with changing facilities, along with full kitchen and dining facilities in the Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form.

Inspectors judged the school to be Good in all phases in its most recent inspection, May 2019

William Hulme’s Grammar School is a vibrant, multicultural school that welcomes children from all backgrounds and beliefs. We are committed to ensuring that all children receive a first-class education that prepares them thoroughly for the future and allows them to play an active role in the life of the school and wider community. The school encourages staff to organise events and trips (home and abroad), extra-curricular and subject enrichment activities, to develop the whole child, to prepare him/her for the challenges of the modern world.

The Role:

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a reliable Hirings Officer that has experience working in a school, ideally in a similar role.

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Hirings Officer will oversee the security of the buildings, be the first point of contact for visitors and hirers and be responsible for the safety and smooth running of hirings during out of school hours.

GCSE passes in English and Maths and an IOSH Qualification are desirable but not essential.

The post is part-time, (20-25 hours per week), all year round. The normal working pattern will be Monday to Thursday, 5.00 pm – 10.00 pm, but may be varied on occasion. It may be necessary for the successful candidate to also work Fridays in the future. It is to be expected that occasional overtime may be required as an integral part of the role. For full details of the role and responsibilities, please see the associated job description, person specification and term and conditions documents. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and particularly those committed to diversity and inclusion.

If you haven’t received a phone call or an invitation to interview email after two to three weeks from the closing date, unfortunately, you haven’t been successful on this occasion.

United Learning

William Hulme's Grammar School is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer life-changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

Safeguarding Statement:

William Hulme's Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
