We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Head of Finance to lead the finance team.

Purpose
To be responsible for: Financial and management accounting systems and reporting.
Plan the College budget in conjunction with the A.P. Finance and Corporate Development and ensure that appropriate financial monitoring systems are in place.
To plan for, give advice on and monitor the generation of financial surpluses to ensure the financially sustainable future of the College.
Duties
1. To provide proactive leadership at a management level in respect of the College’s Finance Function.
2. To report directly and promptly to the Assistant Principal any financial cause for concern.
3. To Line manage the finance team.
4. To build, develop and effectively manage the team using the college’s performance management system to ensure high performance and business efficiency
5. To ensure the College has a sound framework of financial management and control and to establish and maintain systems that conform to best practice.
6. To establish an effective budget setting process and effective financial controls to ensure that the budget is achieved.
7. To be pro-active in recommending the courses of action necessary to address any variances from budget that occur.
8. To advise upon and ensure effective cash flow management and investment of College funds.
9. To produce financial data as required for the purposes of developing and managing capital projects.
10. To ensure that the College strives to maintain high levels of staff efficiency and achieves good value for money for all non-pay costs.
11. To support the Assistant Principal on all financial matters.
12. To propose and present, monthly, financial information to Senior Management and Corporation meetings where appropriate.
13. To ensure that the College’s financial statements are prepared to comply with all relevant legislation and required statutory deadlines.
14. To ensure the security of the College’s assets and maintenance of an effective Assets Register.
15. To plan, lead and implement effective financial administrative systems which streamline bureaucratic processes to ensure value for money and accountability.
16. To liaise with internal and external auditors whilst carrying out-their annual cycle of audit activities.
17. To provide data and reports for the purposes of informing the Corporation of the College’s financial position.
18. To ensure that the College’s capital spending remains within the limits of those approved by the Corporation,
19. Any other duties of a similar level of responsibility as may be required.

Qualifications

Qualified accountant and current member of ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA.
Experience

Significant experience of financial management and management accounting.
Significant experience of preparing financial statements.
Experience of successfully leading, developing, managing and motivating a finance team.
Experience of working with non-financial managers and helping them to develop their knowledge and understanding of budgeting, costing and general financial management.
Proven ability to implement and monitor highly effective and efficient financial controls
Specialist Knowledge

In depth knowledge of financial accounting regulations, processes and procedures

IT Skills
Essential Criteria
Sound working knowledge of Windows based software packages, including mainstream financial reporting systems, forecasting models, word processing and spreadsheets.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft applications and willing to undertake training appropriate to role.
