Animal Management Lecturer and Course Manager
(Full-time, Permanent)
We are an ambitious, forward looking college with high aspirations for our learners. We are currently seeking to appoint an Animal Management Lecturer and Course Manager to join our busy, thriving Animal Management and Science Department.
The successful applicant will have the ability to deliver a range of practical and theoretical disciplines, teaching predominantly on our L3 BTEC programmes (although the ability to teach across a range of abilities and levels within the curriculum is very desirable). Key subject areas that you will need to be confident in delivering are practical animal husbandry skills (covering a range of animals), animal health, biology, genetics, animal metabolism. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and versatile lecturer with a proven track record at further education level. In addition to teaching responsibilities you will also be required to take on course leadership, student recruitment, quality assurance, progress tracking, planning and assessment of students.
You will need to hold a degree in a relevant subject area (particularly if delivering at L3) and have demonstrable experience working with animals in industry. We teach progressive husbandry techniques based on positive reinforcement, so a strong understanding of learning theories is essential as well as exceptional knowledge of animal diets and housing needs. You will ideally hold a teaching qualification but this is not essential, however the ability and commitment to work towards one is highly desirable.
BCA is a popular and expanding FE college with a strong land-based heritage inclusive of a licensed BIAZA accredited zoo and an excellent Animal Education Centre. We have an outstanding record of academic and pastoral achievement and pride ourselves in creating a caring and respectful ethos where every student is important.
We are looking for an adaptable, resourceful, excellent communicator, who will be able to work effectively as part of our team. If you have great organisational skills, can prioritise your workload and are an active listener who encourages development and champions achievement, you’ll thrive in this role.
